Step by step

Open your archive in three steps

  1. Choose the RAR archive and let the local engine list its files.
  2. Select the regular files you want to keep.
  3. Save the selection as a ZIP. Check the new archive before deleting the original RAR.

Conversion means extracting and repackaging

RAR and ZIP use different archive structures. Conversion reads the files out of the RAR and writes them into a new ZIP. Renaming the extension cannot perform this operation, and the new ZIP may be larger than the original.

What the new archive contains

The new ZIP contains the selected regular file contents and relative paths. Archive comments, filesystem ownership, special entries and the original encryption are not necessarily preserved. Keep the original if those details matter.

Local processing, practical limits

Selected files and archive passwords stay on your device. Browser memory, archive size and compression method affect what can be processed. The tool shows its current limits and reports unsupported or unsafe archives. Use a desktop archiver for large backups, multipart sets or filesystem metadata that must be restored exactly.

Frequently asked questions

Will conversion change the file contents?

Extracting and losslessly repackaging regular files preserves their bytes. Archive-level metadata may differ.

Will the ZIP keep the RAR password?

Do not assume the original encryption carries over. Use the compression tool password option when you need an encrypted ZIP.
